Every Spring we watch this. 1st we thought birds ask for food... No, now we know, it is just strange mating activities (protecting territory) . Then we have the nest just behind our window and we watch how Cardinal family rises kids...
After
graduating Math and Science program at some Leningrad (USSR) High school in 1973. I
had applied only to one University: St. PetersburgStateTechnicalUniversity, St. Petersburg, Russia.
But 1st I had idea to go to get engineering phisics major specifically in Biophysics/Bionics.
I visited a few test preparation
sessions (like SAT subject tests) at that university and I was disappointed of contingent/kids there – they looked too nerdy for me as in spite my
very high GPA I was more like punk :
So I
changed my mind and applied to Mechanical Engineering School.
After one semester I have
realized I was wrong and tried to transfer back… but because of some bureaucracy
issues I almost was terminated.
So I stuck in the Mechanical engineering
for the next 2.5 years and only when “Industrial Robotics” discipline was
established in 1976 in the same faculty, then I was able to move there and finally I got
my master degree in Robotics.
<-That is me on some lecture
having good time:
I realy enjoyed student livfe especially during summer semester. One of them I spent in
the south of Russia in some archaeological expedition:
TRYING TO FIND SOMETHING LIKE:
But most exciting findings was:
... and most important findings was...my future wife!
______
After graduation I worked in
University Data Center as Mainframe System programmer with computers like below:
(I worked with Soviet clones of IBM/360 systems called EC)
Then I entered to Ph.D. program
and got my PhD in Robotics in 1986 in the same university..
I have published in
my Russian blog the
abstract of my PhD dissertations (1986 ) Research of Industrial
Robot Grasping Processes The main idea of that work was to find the way
to calculate a some set of initial grasping
(or assembling) object coordinates that would warrant
successful grasping (or assembling) process (operation). I called
that "Area of Normal Functioning - ANF" (Область Нормального
Функционирования -ОНФ). If grasping or assembling process
starts with parameters (or coordinates) that are not in that
area, the process will be abnormal and failed. That area defined coordinates where the passive (natural) adaptation would work.
Here is couple pictures from my dissertation:
One of the object for the research:

Differential geometry equations:
<-- Vector equations...

_______ Then
I become a professor and taught the following courses:
Me on the "Automate" faculty:
I have also work for Brokerage Company trying (unsuccessfully ) to build
some forecasting model about the new Russian stock market:
Here is citation from, my 2008 CMG paper about
that:
________
In 1999 I moved to USA and started from the scratch absolutely
new career – IT Capacity Management. I have published more than 10 paper about that.
I made a lot of presentation about my favorite topic, which is the statistical analysis of computer behavior. Below is one of the last presentation (workshop) I made:
And I even got the prestigiouswww.CMG.orgbest paper award in 2002:
By the way, rereading my old work (dissertation) I suddenly figured out that
my resent idea of Exception Value (anomaly measure, which is area between statistical limits and
just happened actual variables values) is very similar with what my very
old idea of calculating limits for successful assembling or robot
grasping processes!
Below is math. model of that EV which close to ANF model described in my designation:
_______ I have worked for a few Banks IT departments starting with Capital One and then was outsorced to IBM, where now working as Sr. IT Architect doing consulting work.
I had some business with Coca-cola Company and visited thiew museum in Atlata, where I sow robotic shop to produce bottles with Coca-Cola:
Verizon finally scheduled another visit of more experienced specialist (T3 - 3rd level support?) to visit my house today. The person called and told me that there are two other similar tickets opened in my area (Maybe someone red my blog with FiOS issue updates!!!!) and he will check with other specialist working on that and call back.
In two hours he called me again telling that some piece of equipment in Verizon local office was replaced.
I ran my test and (УРА!!!!) upload works now! See the excellent upload trend below from (http://www.connectionanalyzer.com/home.php)
Another technician came to my house (in an hour or so after 1st visit) with the box of screwdrivers and with his own laptop.
He asked me to recreated the error on his laptop. That was a slowest Vista box I have ever used... and I had to search for a large enough file to attach. Found some "Verizon.bmp" 3 Mb file. And (Oh MIRACLE!) I was able to attached that file to e-mail. During my test the technician was on a call with other Verizon women which told him - oh that is not a FiOS problem.... I repeated the test with lager file that I have zipped to be sure it is not compressible like bitmap files as network can compress that itself to make that file smaller , and that test as well as another one showed the problem clearly; and Visualware test showed the same bad pattern of uploading process with large random pauses. But the Verizon women has already dropped the call. (In Russian we call that bad luck situation as "Visit Effect"...)
Anyway, technician admitted that the problem is still there and promised me to escalate that to "Programmers" .
He has left me the direct telephone of his manger so I do not have to go through the painful general customer support call again.
The Verizon technician came, replaced outdoor box (modem?), reset everything including IP change of my router. Then we did my 2 mb e-mail attachment test together and THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE! He admitted that and also made the speed test himself using : http://www.connectionanalyzer.com/home.php -
and here is what he have seen:
He left promising to escalate that issue to another Verizon office (some in NYC) and calling me back....
I got call from Verizon and after a few additional tests (e.g. attaching my laptop directly to outside FiOS box-modem bypassing coax cable and router), finally they scheduled the visit of some technician to my house.
I started my career in 1979 as an IBM/370 system engineer. In 1986 I
got my PhD. in Robotics at St. Petersburg Technical University (Russia)
and then worked as a professor teaching there CAD/CAM, Robotics and
Computer Science for about 12 years. I published 30 papers and made
several presentations for international conferences related to the
Robotics, Artificial Intelligent and Computer fields. In 1999 I moved to
the US and worked at Capital One bank in Richmond as a Capacity
Planner. My first CMG paper was written and presented in 2001. The next
one, "Global and Application Level Exception Detection System Based on
MASF Technique," won a Best Paper award at CMG 2002 and was presented
again at UKCMG 2003 in Oxford, England. My CMG 2004 paper about applying
MASF technique to mainframe performance data was republished in the IBM
z/Series Expo. I also presented my papers in Central Europe CMG
conference and in numerous US regional meetings. I continue to enhance
my exception detection methodologies. After working more than 2 years as
the Capacity Management team lead for IBM, I had worked for SunTrust
Bank for 3 years and then got back to IBM accepting Sr. IT Architect
position.
